Stay One Degree

Quick to respond to the change in consumer behavior during the pandemic, Stay One Degree focused on personalized local experiences and curating specialized packages with Mandarin Oriental in Miami. Guests are requesting longer stays and travel is anticipated to rebound strongly in 2022 with bucket-list trips, family gatherings and FOLO.

Can you give us an overview of the impact the pandemic has had on your business and how you have responded?
Jorge MunozThe pandemic has undoubtedly impacted the travel industry. The disruption to international travel meant that we faced greater uncertainty and risk in demand due to limited travel across borders. Throughout this time we have adapted to the needs and trends of our community which led to significant increase in inventory in key regions both in Europe and North America. One of the clear trends with strong momentum throughout the pandemic was staycations and we pride ourselves on having identified this trend early on through creating localized one-of-a-kind experiences for our members. Following our strategic investment with the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group we have curated exclusive packages, combining the finest travel and hospitality to bring our great partnership to life. We recently launched an exclusive ‘Stay and Sail’ experience with Mandarin Oriental in Miami, giving guests the opportunity to combine a stay at the hotel with a bespoke private yacht charter; guests enjoy unparalleled treatment with luxury transfers and award-winning gastronomy whilst at sea – truly showcasing the best Miami has to offer!

How has luxury consumer behavior changed and what habits are here to stay?
Covid has certainly accelerated the trend of luxury travellers preferring privacy and seclusion and this is definitely here to stay. We are experiencing higher volumes of inquiries for longer length stays of 3-4 weeks; with an even greater desire to visit favorite destinations, particularly among multi-generational families. Travel is a much-loved excuse for families and friends to reunite and enjoy unforgettable moments in idyllic places! One thing is certain, throughout the pandemic the desire for travel has never wavered, and so long as we don’t see renewed travel restrictions, we expect double the number of bookings for exotic destinations further afield in 2022 with luxury travelers wishing to fulfil their wanderlust trips-of-a-lifetime!

How have you engaged with your traveler along the journey?
Our community of owners and renters are of paramount importance to us without whom Stay One Degree would not exist, throughout this time we have always ensured to be as reactive as possible to their changing needs and demands. We have certainly seen an increase in demand to speak with our sales associates. While the demand to travel and explore has certainly increased, so has the demand to know as much as possible before booking a property, from small details of the home, to things to do in the local area, or cancellation policies due to Covid. Our personal travel experts and in-house concierge are always on hand to support and arrange bespoke services and experiences; facilitating a seamless experience for our community remains at the core of everything we do. We have also engaged with our members through identifying unique packages in destinations where travel was severely restricted, such as Hong Kong. With this in mind we launched a separate exclusive ‘City and Sea Staycation’ experience with our partner Mandarin Oriental, giving guests the opportunity to combine a stay at Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong with a bespoke private yacht charter.

Initiatives such as this have allowed us to engage with our members and provide them with much-needed inspiration!

What trends are you looking out for in 2022?
2022 will be highly anticipated. We believe the worst is behind us and 2022 should be a year of recovery and generally a very positive year for travel. With increasing vaccination rates and freedom to travel, luxury travelers will most certainly be eager to explore and travel to new destinations. Longer trips to exotic destinations particularly those connecting with nature are expected to be hugely popular in the coming year due to pent-up demand by our members to fulfill their bucket list trips and at the same time explore more secluded areas. Similarly, we are seeing increasing inquiries from our members who wish to celebrate important milestones with the gift of travel and our finest vacation homes. We expect demand for curated experiences to be a key trend for 2022.
